Non-Surgical Double Chin Reduction: a more defined chin contour
Many people notice in profile photos that the contour under the chin looks less defined. This is very common, and it almost always has to do with fat under the chin, skin with less firmness, or both. These in-office treatments aim to define that contour without incisions. Dr. Thuel reviews what is going on in your case and guides you honestly, aiming for a more defined profile in harmony with your face.

The essentials before you decide
What Non-Surgical Double Chin Reduction involves, step by step
General information so you arrive at your consultation with a clear idea. In your case it may vary; Dr. Thuel will confirm it during the consultation.
It may be right for you if…
- You see yourself in a profile photo and notice fat under your chin.
- You avoid certain angles in photos or lift your chin without realizing it.
- You feel your jawline is less defined than before.
- You want to explore non-surgical options before considering a facelift.
- What it is
- In-office treatments to reduce fat under the chin, with injected lipolysis or with cold (cryolipolysis), or to firm the neck with skin tightening.
- How it is done
- Lipolysis consists of several small injections into the fat under the chin. Cryolipolysis cools the area with an applicator, without needles.
- Advantages
- No operating room or incisions; you return to your routine the same day. With cryolipolysis, there are also no needles.
- Who performs it
- Dr. Irene Thuel, in the clinic's office.
- Anesthesia and discomfort
- Numbing cream, cold or local anesthesia for lipolysis; cryolipolysis usually does not need it. Lipolysis causes a burning sensation for a few minutes; the cold causes discomfort that usually eases soon.
- Duration
- Lipolysis usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. Cryolipolysis takes approximately 35 to 60 minutes per application.
- Sessions
- Lipolysis: usually 2 to 4 sessions, sometimes up to 6, at least one month apart. Cryolipolysis: 1 or 2 are usually enough.
- Recovery and care
- You return to your activities the same day. After lipolysis, swelling usually lasts 1 to 2 weeks; applying cold locally and sleeping with your head slightly raised can help.
- When it shows
- The change is gradual: it is usually noticeable 1 to 3 months after each session.
- How long the result lasts
- The fat that is removed does not usually come back, so the change can last over time. Even so, weight gain and natural aging can change the area.
- Who should not have it
- They are not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or when there is an infection in the area. Lipolysis requires caution if there are swallowing problems; cryolipolysis is not used with certain reactions to cold. The doctor reviews this at the consultation.
- Follow-up visits
- Before each new session and about 2 to 3 months after the last one, to assess the result.
Mild, moderate or marked
How far a treatment without incisions can go
These treatments address localized fat under the chin and neck skin that has lost some firmness. If skin laxity is already marked, a surgical facelift usually works better, and the doctor will tell you so before starting.
- Localized fat under the chin: double chin lipolysis or cryolipolysis may be considered.
- Mild to moderate neck skin laxity: skin tightening may help.
- Marked skin laxity: a facelift usually works better, which Dr. Thuel performs as a team with Dr. Juan Ramón Poveda Xatruch, Physician and Surgeon, Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.

Risks of double chin treatments
Good to know before treating a double chin

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Non-Surgical Double Chin Reduction
Can my double chin be treated without surgery, or do I need a facelift?
It depends on what is under the chin. If it is localized fat or mild to moderate skin laxity, these treatments may be considered. When skin laxity is marked, a facelift usually works better, which Dr. Thuel performs as a team with Dr. Juan Ramón Poveda Xatruch.
When can I return to my routine after lipolysis?
You can usually return to your activities the same day. At first, the area under the chin often swells quite a bit for 1 to 2 weeks, and each person experiences it differently. That is why it is best not to schedule it right before an important event.
What is the investment?
It depends on the option and the number of sessions. We tell you at your consultation, before you decide.
